Yes, had the exact same feeling. Even my neighbors were saying, "what's wrong with your Tesla..." in that smug voice. Anyway, hopefully you get yours repaired and returned faster than my repair.
The funny thing is, I'm not personally embarrassed...I just don't want Tesla to look bad by driving a creaky Model 3 near pedestrians. I'm used to getting looks, but not for this!

All was fixed and the car is back home. They did end up fixing the latch on the armrest cover (thanks again Garsh for your help). The creaking is gone and we are once again happily adding miles.

I have had a oil drum creaking-like noise (very similar to the noise heard when dropping my sun shade onto the rear floor) intermittently with slow speed turns, easily reproduced when one side of the front suspension changes height (up a driveway, for example). I have shown it to 3 different Rangers multiple times and they asked me (and also collected themselves) to get video of the sound(s). Each Ranger could easily replicate described noise. Said they would send the vids to Engineering.

Months pass - no contact. Would be most curious to know what was done on other cars to cure this issue.

Hi from Spain,

I think I have the same creaking sound that most of you describe in this thread. The sound has been there mostly since I got the car in March but I think it is going worse. I have a video about it:

I definitely think it comes from the front suspension. My problem is that nearest SC is >300miles away and they give me appointment for 2 months on.

So my question is. Do you think lifting the car, greasing suspension.. can help? Is there anything I could try for myself? I tried to google M3 nuts and bolts torque specs but no success

Any advice will be welcome!

Awesome video that captures the sound.....at the very least, forward that video to Tesla and IMO post on Reddit as well to get exposure.

I dont think greasing is a solution, sounds more like a groan caused by a loose fitting that is meant to alow flex but no rotational movement.....or a bushing not doing its job.

Hi Mike thanks for the answer. I can give now an update on the creaking sound: It gets reduced as you climb height above sea level. At sea level where at live it is noticeable, but at 6000 feet above sea it almosts disappears. I guess atmospheric pressure has to deal with it

Well, that is very strange!

So this issue has resurfaced again, this time in the left front (last time was right front). It appears to be the exact same issue which is disappointing. I've scheduled an appointment at the SC to get it looked at.

Question for the group, I literally just eclipsed the 80,000km this week, so car is now not under the warranty. Given that I've had this issue before, what are the chances that Tesla would fix this under good will?

Did you bring it to their attention before the 80,000 km was reached?

If so, your covered. If not, I would not expect them to do so.

Unfortunately the issue just started so I did not get the call in before 80K.

Good news. Part was replaced under warranty. Same upper control arm issue as the passenger side. Car is once again creakless and quiet. :)

I wonder if it is a matter of time before mine suffers this ailment, based on our close build dates.......

Good question. What's your mileage in comparison to mine? I think my passenger side started around 50K and driver at 80K.

I too have this problem, (creaking front suspension). Service replaced the front control arm on one side, and the noise went away for a week. Now it’s back, and i’ll have to take it back in. I have 40k km on the RWD vehicle, first problem i’ve had.

We had the same creaking sound. The rangers confirmed that it was something that they could not fix locally....so after a 2.5 hour drive to the closest service center this is what resulted (taken from the paperwork).

"Customer states that there is creaking sound from either right or left front suspension during slow turn such as parking or during light braking or acceleration"

"Confirmed client concern. Inspected and found bolt on subframe to lower control arm not torqued to specification. Applied lock tight and torqued bolt to factory specifications. Reroad tested and confirmed noise is no longer present."

"Correction: Exterior NVH General Diagnosis"

So the problem is not overly common but it is not unheard of.
I know this is an older post but I'm searching around for folks with similar issues to my car, which is a creaking/squeaking noise when you turn the wheel and at low speeds over bumps. Mine first started at low speeds (under 15 miles/hr) primarily over slow bumps but then added during slow turning, left & right. My noise is on the front drivers side. To complicate my situation, I have aftermarket suspension, Mountain Pass Performance Comfort coilovers, and the installer shop said it was "coil binding" which I looked up and it doesn't really sound the same as my squeaky "bed frame" sound. I had the suspension adjusted a little higher and the noise lessened, the shop said it would be less due to the coils having less pre-load. But the noise is still there, I have a feeling the shop just didn't torque everything down correctly. So maybe if I'm into a Tesla Service Center I'll bring it up, tell them to ignore the aftermarket suspension and see if the steering components are making noise. Or the parts of the suspension that are factory, like upper control arm, etc.

I'm so glad I found this thread. I'm having the same problem. It was there for a few weeks, and we made a service appointment, but then it stopped, so we cancelled the appointment. Now, it's back and worse than before. You can clearly hear it from outside the car. We've got an appointment for Thursday morning. I'm going to bring up the front control arm that people seem to cite. I'll report back when I know something.

Of course, my research suggests that automotive repair is "essential" and still open in the state where I'm going (MD). But I'm going to confirm with them tomorrow. The governor just made the change yesterday, so I'm giving them a few days to figure it out on their end.

I just got the car back and it was a front control arm. I sent them a link to this thread, as well as a video I took while my wife drove, so they could hear the noise. Thank you for all the help.

Great you got it fixed without issue! What was the exact description, front control arm not torqued to spec? I thought I saw a diagram somewhere showing the torque specs for all the suspension & steering parts, i may be imaging things though. If I find it I'll post it here for reference. Maybe it was on Mountain Pass's website. But that could be something to check quickly myself before punting to a service center. Thanks for the update👍
by the way where did you go? I'm in Arlington and would go to the Tyson's corner SC, probably like you. We may live close to each other😀
