Well it's been a full year since I left work and went straight to the Manhattan Tesla show room and sat there while a very enthusiastic Wall Street bro told me all about his philanthropic ideas... I'm pretty sure he was coked out of his mind. Met some interesting people waiting in line. Anyone have any stories to share?

All I have to say, regretfully, is I was NOT where I should have been, in a T≡SLA store!!!
Don't beat yourself up Michael. I didn't even know Tesla was coming out with a more affordable model until a friend of mine posted on Facebook that he had reserved one. Did my research, got really excited and finally pulled the trigger on April 25th.

Security kept the line back from the Tesla Kiosk so as not to block all of the regular mall traffic.
But here I took a picture from my position towards the front of the line, with the Tesla Kiosk and a Model S in the background.

Just mentioned this in a reply to @Michael Russo a few days ago...
My dad had back surgery on the 31st and I had already planned to work early and leave a little early (was getting a project completed and ready to send out so couldn't afford to miss part of a day out of the office) so I wasn't able to go to the store in the morning or just after work :(
So before the reveal I went to the hospital - one of my dad's car friends came by while I was there and I told them about the reveal that night and that I was going to put in my reservation. They both looked at me like I was crazy deciding on an unseen car that they thought would be $80,000+... Drove home the with Tesla's event site open on my phone waiting for Elon. He was late (luckily for me!) I got home and Elon came on stage minutes later.
Watched the event and tried to enter my CC but the site was stalling out so decided to go to bed and put in my $1000 in the morning. Don't think I slept to speak of and ended up entering my CC number around 5am.
So no in store Apple-like experience but still a memorable day for sure.

I came to this through being a Spacex fan so the last two days of March are always going to an amazing time. Only found out about the Model 3 release about 3 weeks before. Did some research, worked up my courage to bring it up with my wife, she was amazing didn't blink. Then sat at my computer hitting refresh until online orders opened, took a minute to place reservation and waited for the reveal. Then thank god I discovered this site or the last year would have driven me insane.

I was glued to my computer for sure. Shoulda went to Toronto but oh well! I refreshed Elon's twitter all day and remember him announcing that the preorders would open before the event would happen. Ended up being 1030 my time. Kept refreshing the page on my phone and it loaded 5 minutes before it should've. Order #2 wasn't until November or so and I had a bunch of time to think about the Tesla Network and decided to do a second order as a potential investment. Plan to just bump it until details on the network become clearer/its in place.

I was at the Rocklin, CA store. Got there at 10 AM, got the reservation at 1:30 PM. It was 3.5 enjoyable hours with friendly, interesting people to talk to.

The people in front of me.

I got up "early" and headed to the Houston Galleria. Got there thinking to see a few people, like 10-15. When I made it to the line there were 75 people in front of me. After we reserved and walked out the line had grown to 200+.

This day will live in infamy! Lol

Like @Daliman I found about Model 3 by following SpaceX, then Elon on Twitter. In my case that was a good year before the reveal though and I spent a lot of time on TMC learning the Tesla ropes before Trev fired this site up. I wound up being the first to set up camp in Montreal on the 29th, joined only an hour later by fellow campers/maniacs Chris and Bianca. That first night was FRICKIN COLD Mr. Bigglesworth. Had a fabulous time though, Tesla Montreal staff were so welcoming and took great care of us and I met so many cool people from all walks of life who were simply "believers". We felt like that gang from Close Encounters of The Third Kind making their way to Devil's Tower despite the dire warnings, our families thinking we were nuts, all united by The Secret Master Plan. We started to get a lot of attention on the 30th from media, etc but it was only when I awoke on that horrible, cold rainy morning that was the 31st to the sight of few hundred people in line that I realized how big this was gonna be. By the time I had reserved and packed up camp the lines stretched to the Decarie expressway (300+) and continued to grow throughout the day. Madness.
The craziest thing for sure though was finding out that the tent made the rounds of screens at HQ, and then getting an invite to go tour the factory.
Mind. Blown.

I totally forgot it's been a year already. Was too busy at work, I guess. At this rate, we'll get our Model 3 before we know it. :)

That day I took a lunch break from work to check out the Tesla line at the mall. Ran into my coworker and her husband who took the day off and were waiting in line since 9am. By that time they were at the front of the line by the store's entrance. They convinced me to get in line, a rather intimidating and long one. And boy I'm glad I did! Only 30 minutes later, I was able to reserve the Model 3.

As I left the mall I noticed a news van in the parking lot. Later that night I was surprised to see myself on the news chatting away with my coworker and shaking her husband's hand.

'Twas a memorable day indeed.

Happy anniversary people!

Camped out overnight...next to a chicken supply store (seriously) and under the airport landing pattern. Not a great nights sleep.

Maybe a better question would be "where were you on the 30th?" :)
That's an excellent way to rephrase it since I too left work on the 30th and camped out on the sidewalk. Which only gained me roughly 10ish spots in the line compared to showing up at 6am. Strangely Manhattan didn't have as many hardcore people. Since they have a Brooklyn, Jersey, long island, Westchester and Connecticut stores within spitting distance.

I took a day of vacation on 3/31/2016, and arrived at the Kansas City store around 7:30 am, to find about 75-100 people already in line. I chatted with the people near me in line for about 2 1/2 hours until the store opened. The Tesla staff came up & down the line with water and cookies. The line moved quickly once the store opened, and I was surprised how quick the actual process was. I had created a myTesla account to make the process go smoothly and quickly, and I had pre-loaded $1000 into my PayPal account, anticipating using that as the source of funds, like many people did when ordering a Model S. I was surprised to learn that Tesla wasn't set up to use PayPal for the Model 3, so i used a credit card instead. All-in-all, I was out the door, reservation in hand,before10:15 am. I spent the rest of the day checking my credit card and e-mail for signs the transaction went through. By afternoon, the credit card transaction had appeared, but nothing from Tesla. I was very nervous. After watching the reveal, i got on TMC and saw posts about seeing activity in myTesla, which I hadn't checked. I was relieved to find my Reservation Number there. i didn't get the e-mail until the next day.

I forgot to add to that because I stayed up all night I was exhausted since I went back to work the same day and limped through the day on multiple extra large lattes. When I got home to watch the presentation I was fading fast and dozed off in the middle of the presentation only to be shaken awake by my girlfriend. I ended up rewatching it the next day.

Left work around 4pm, stopped @ a Tesla center on my way down to SD (convenient pit stop on a 3 hours drive), reserved around 1730. Watched the reveal on my phone when I get to SD
