Hi Everyone,

A couple days after I took delivery I noticed some kind of paint imperfection with the trunk paint. Like a blotch on the trunk. I know nothing about paint so I just assumed it was a manufacturing issue since it seemed under the clear coat. I took it to the SC while they were looking at some other stuff and they were puzzled too as to what it was. But the "detail" team was able to fix the spot somehow although they did not tell me what they did.

Fast forward to a couple weeks ago and it rained. (it doesn't rain much out here). There were rain droplets all over the car when I got out of work, I didn't think anything of it. I washed the car that weekend and noticed these new spots will not come out with any cleaner I have tried. I am even pressing so hard on the trunk that I can start to see slight swirl marks on the clear coat from the microfiber towel.

Nowhere else on the car does this seem to be a problem except the trunk. Is this normal? Because I have never seen anything like this before. I was planning on calling the SC and asking what they did last time but I figured I'd ask around first.

Curious if you ever got to the bottom of this. I have the same problem with my trunk and hood. Just received less than a month ago and noticed it a couple days after. I was travelling and didn't think much of it. Took it to a specialist this weekend and definitely said it happened during production.

I have not gotten this looked at yet. The first time this happened I definitely thought it was a production problem, but this time I know it was caused by simple rain water while I was parked.

Did you wax or coat this car yet?
Water sitting on unprotected flat car surface can certainly cause hard spots, I guess depending on acidity + other factors like being baked in sun.

Personally, after good washing, I'd use [$6 Turtle Wax] polishing compound to get the spots out (+ wash those areas again, prob like what SC did) then "wax" car w/something like [$8] Nu Finish a couple/few times a year depending. This will help prevent H2O, sap & to a limited extent bird droppings from harming finish. Though I do use a small spray bottle & clean cloth to remove sap & droppings fairly frequently.

Opinion varies but IMO & experience its fine to wax/coat car a couple/few weeks after factory paint, possibly longer for any non-factory paint work.

Hello! You guys are not alone! I noticed these marks before taking delivery, they re-detailed it and it came out ok. A few weeks later, they reappeared all over the hood and trunk. I called into the customer service- the girl sounded like they have heard this problem before and she is elevating the issue to management to see if they are going to repaint the whole car. I've been waiting 2 weeks though and still no progress.
