I truly hope the phone holster pockets are somewhat universal and not made to fit a particular phone.
I dealt with that for years with BMW and they seemed to always release a $100 dock just before the next phone was released! At least it's not a crazy $50 custom cable.

I had that thought. What happens if the iPhone announced in September ditches lightning....

They only place to go is USB-C so it's just a purchase of a new $14 cable in this case. But that's why I hope the physical mount is universal.

Another point, I always mount my phones up on the dashboard within view because I drive everywhere with Waze. I double Tesla will support displaying Waze on its screen or displaying your docked phone's screen.

I was very impressed with this one. Perfect for my wife's seemingly always dying iPhone.
so I hope you order your wife a new iPhone8 (or whatever the name will be) then ;)

you swap out the latest tech's cable with the one installed. (hopefully Apple gets the wifi charging figured out at some point - or induction at the least)

Supposedly the cable is "captured" and held in place so that you can just glomp your phone down on it without fussing around.

The USB ports that the cable plugs into are USB-A

Unfortunately, a USB-A to USB-C cable is incapable of charging a USB-C phone at decent rates. It's just the way the spec is written, so as not to burn up old USB equipment.

I wonder if there will be a regular power port/cigarette lighter. They have USB-C chargers for those that will work at decent rates.

It looks like there is a chance the iPhone 8 has wireless charging capability so I wasn't sure how that all would play out and if it would still have a port even.

That's a good topic. So I have been verbal about not caring much for Waze. Instead I have a hard wired Valentine One in my car. A few thoughts:
  1. The Model 3 is so clean, I don't think I want anything on the glass (phone or radar detector)
  2. The Valentine One is really starting to bother me -- every Mazda that gets behind me is a laser false alarm
  3. If the phone dock works well, I may run Waze but keep my phone in the dock as audible alerts will cover what I need.

so I hope you order your wife a new iPhone8 (or whatever the name will be) then ;)
I would like to think I am a good husband and I son. I have my wife, my parents, and my younger sister on my AT&T account. I will be ordering 5 iPhone 8's at 3 am EST whenever it is that the ordering begins :)

While we don't have the manuals quite yet I did receive a screenshot of the USB cable installation for the blind holstering system for up to 2 phones. This is something I'm really liking!

Hi Trev,

Please send digital link when you get you get access to the model 3 car manual. I'd really appreciate it if isn't too much trouble.
