Superchargers vs. Regular 50 kWh chargers

Started to watch first 32' of Bjørn Nyland's new YouTube video (#31 - Winter is Coming... he must be a GoT fan!! :D). This guy is really cool... will have to finish it tomorrow as it is getting late...

Anyways, Bjørn is driving his Model X from Oslo to Bergen (several hundred miles) and it gives me a pretty good indication of the amount of planning tactics you need to exercise to get the best of where and when to stop when you are driving long distance!

Seems also pretty clear that, as you all experts all know (yeah, I admit it, I am still a novice here!!), 1. SC are much faster and should be privileged whenever possible and 2. when using other chargers, it seems better to stop at almost all of them for a shorter time than gettin the max. amount of juice and stay longer at the chosen stops...

Whew, it's a darn good thing I still have at least two years to learn these tricks... Plus watch them Superchargers grow in many new places!!! Yeah!

What do you mean when you say "Regular 50 kWh"?

If I were to use a Class 2 EVSE here in the US, that would mean said equipment is supplied with 240 volt, Alternating Current (NOT DC) that is limited internally to 64 Amps (on an 80 Amp circuit).
Well, 64 or 80 Amps times 240 Volts equals 15360 or 19200 Watts.

That's quite some difference from a "Regular 50kWh" piece of equipment, so...

...I'm assuming that Europe must have a lot more of the "Fast DC" chargers that are NOT carrying the Tesla name. Do I understand this correctly?

Well, let me just say from the get go that I am (very) at this all and trying to learn...
Maybe I misquoted Bjørn vs. his commentaries relative the various different chargers during his roundtrip from Oslo to/from Bergen (Nor).
My key observations were:
- Bjørn used various types of chargers on this trip, from SCs to others
- He seemed to stop at almost every opportunity he had, even if he had only driven about 100 miles - there was a lot of 'tactics' involved... :)
- most of his stops were at least 45-60', even at SCs (this surprised me a bit as I thought you'd recharge up to 80% in 30' tops...)

Again, as I said, just picking up data at this point... I'm also telling me 'don't worry too much' 'cause charging stations will continue to be more numerous & increasingly more capable by the time I get my Model ≡ (2+ years) yet I'll be driving one of the most amazing set of wheels in the world, possible even THE most striking one!! :)

I've been following the local Tesla community here and yes, I confirm things are getting better than I expected.
But still a long way from that map.

I'm not that pessimistic now...

For me and probably for most of the portuguese that think of going with a M3 base range (210 miles) this SC that I point here is a fundamental one to discard once and for all the ICE cars in Portugal.
With this SC I can make my vacation trip no worries...
Me and 1 or 2 million Portuguese more.... :)
It's game over for ICE cars and most of the complaints I here from my friends when we talk about EVs

That one's not under construction yet, but Alcacér do Sal is. Shortening the route, at least - down to 245km (152mi). Should be "good enough" :) Indeed, if you take the coastal route rather than E1, it's only 191km!

I know that.
I know my ways around here.
But the thing is for the majority of portuguese that are still skeptic of living with an EV to go on vacation.
More than 80% go on the E1 motorway

My main point was just to point out that Alcacér do Sal was under construction, since you didn't mention it. And that it alone should be good enough (even on the E1 motorway), so long as you have a destination charge on the far end.

Wasn't trying to imply that you don't know the layout of your own country, lol :)
