Hey. So I got ICED this morning in Boston. Was going to charge in the parking garage while working, but 4/6 chargers were occupied without being plugged in. So on to my backup plan of Supercharging on the way home. My only concern is that Tesla still hasn't paired the car with my phone (car was delivered yesterday). Can I supercharge before that occurs? Does the car allow me to put my CC number into the onboard computer when attempting to supercharge?

Your credit card only goes in to your online Tesla account. The app nor the car have any way to input that information.

Explain further about Tesla not pairing your car to your account. That is always done at delivery. Did they not at least set up your phone app for car control? Are you strictly using the key cars for access and driving?

Many times and reports that the car is added to an account at delivery, then drops off the app for a number of hours while Tesla systems update and share the information, but I've not hear of anyone taking delivery and not having the car paired to your Tesla account and phone app.

You need to be calling your Delivery Center.

I would also think you could go ahead and try the Supercharger. If the car is truly not "delivered" in the Tesla systems I bte you can still SC and it would just hit some default Tesla account. They've got to have some provision for charging these cars on their lots before delivery and I would bet they have a few SC's around for that. Their SC's may also be special exceptions, may not not open to the whole network of SC'ers, but may be worth a try.

Do you not charge at home at all?

I live in NH, so it was delivery by truck to the local Walmart. The delivery guy pretty much just had me verify the car matched my purchase agreement, and had me sign for it.

I did charge at home yesterday, but once a week I commute to Boston for work. It's 150 miles each way, so I need to charge somewhere along the way.

I'll call my delivery specialist at lunch to ask him to pair the car to my account.

P.S.
Nope, no setup. I connected the chargers and paired Bluetooth when I got home yesterday. Currently strictly using the card for key access.

you shouldn't have an issue using the superchargers. there have been plenty of people reporting that even with their accounts linked to the car, they have not been charged for use in the first few days of ownership some times, and charged other times - so seems there is some lag or coordination on the payment side anyway.

Certainly worth a try. There's a good chance you will get a free charge, especially if the car is still assigned to Tesla instead of your account.
When I took delivery last week, the display was showing a $8 supercharge at 1pm. They activated the car to my account about 5pm and I drove away at 6. I added my credit info on the Tesla web site the next morning, and that supercharge was not listed.

Congrats on the new car, I knew they did home deliveries (this may be a first at a Wal-Mart and I just cringe at the fact that you have to tell people you got your new Tesla at a Wal-Mart) but to say the least, it sounds like they may need yet tighter integration with you getting the car from a delivery option and getting it connected to your account. Best of luck on getting some Supercharger on the way home or maybe one of those other chargers opening up at lunch time.

Haha... Yeah... It didn't sound too uncommon. If they don't think your street will accommodate the truck well, they ask to meet you at somewhere more accessible... It didn't occur to me until just now how funny it sounds though to say I got my Tesla at Wal-Mart.

I did go ahead and check just before getting lunch and as luck would have it a spot had opened up, so I shouldn't need to supercharge this trip. Called my delivery specialist and the Dedham location (delivery center on purchase agreement). No answer from either, but hoping to have the car paired by the end of the day. If not I may stop at the super charger anyways just to see if it lets me charge without a paired Tesla.

Yes, your car will Supercharge, and you'll probably get free charging until Tesla finishes setting up your account. We enjoyed several free Supercharging sessions in the weeks before we finally got app access.

BTW, I got my Model 3 at a Lowe's!

As others indicated, I was able to supercharge even though the car isn't paired with my account. Went to a service center and talked to my delivery specialist this evening. They told me it could take up to a week for it to show up paired on my account. But at least I can supercharge.

Well I got home tonight and discovered my temp plate fell off somewhere on the highway :fearscream:. I'll have to call up the NH DMV tomorrow and see if I can replace it. Hopefully Tesla will send me the paper work I need to fully register soon.

I hope your registration experience is better than mine. "Home Delivery" was 6/23 and the car arrived with no plate or registration at all.

I'm still operating on a temporary plate that expires next week. Attempting to register the vehicle has been just one (Tesla) screw-up after another. The nadir was when they sent me registration paperwork for a license plate in the wrong state.

I finally received the correct paperwork today (7/25) and FedEx'd it back but there's no chance Arizona will process it quickly enough, so I've been promised a second temporary plate. We'll see.

My advice: If they promise something will get done, insist on a due date, and start following up immediately if it doesn't happen. I love Tesla but they really need to improve their internal systems in several areas.

I've been pretty pleased with the process all around. My delivery specialist and I discussed getting temp plates before delivery.

My registration paperwork arrived yesterday. That one almost did screw me over because Tesla added a 0 to my address to FedEx. Thankfully there are only 4 houses on my street, FedEx figured it out, and the title itself was addressed correctly. From there I was able to just take it to the Town Clerk's office and register it.

My account got paired with the car this morning, and I got it inspected this afternoon so I'm all set now with the car and loving it.
