But this appears to be UK-only, considering it is DAB. And I don't believe they have Slacker over there (can someone confirm?)
Regardless, it's about time Tesla made everyone happy and added more native streaming options. Slacker, Spotify, Sirius/XM, Pandora, Apple, Google, Amazon...it would be great to have them all built-in.
No, I presume someone sent it to OP's email inbox as a "scoop".
There's only one problem - scores of folks have reported seeing this for months now - really since V9 came out. A lot of folks have noticed that it most often shows up when they've got something connected via USB.
Examples:
The fact that the one in the OP also lists DAB means it's from one of the nations that use that protocol. And, as most folks know, Model 3 doesn't use AM due to the inherent issues with reception in most EVs.
So I suppose "never say never", but I see it as incredibly unlikely we'll see wide roll-out of SXM back into the fleet (namely the 3). I think services like Spotify or the long-rumored Tesla in-house service are just as plausible (or implausible, as it were), if they were to add or replace a service. The fact that it is showing up is most likely an artifact of the Model S, if I were to speculate.
Ah, good to see DAB there, that is what we use in UK for radio. I was getting worried that we would have to rely on FM and go back a few years. It looks like the M3 will come to UK with DAB support then. That said, I do miss FM, currently touring around Scotland in motorhome and only have FM, great listening to local 'outer Hebrides' radio stations, digital radio takes that fun away unless you search for them.
I have the streaming app, works great but I have unlimited data so I'm not worried about that. Your idea of streaming from the car's LTE is a good one.
