So Murphy's law being what it is, and human beings being what they are...

Eventually a Full Self Driving car will run into something.

Who's responsible? The Owner? The Car Mfg? The other driver/thing?

Cause right now, Auto-pilot being a driver assist puts the responsibility on the driver still. But Full Self Driving means you don't even have to be behind the wheel. So how is responsibility determined?

That will be determined by some combination of contracts, laws, and courts.

By default, the owner of the vehicle will be responsible for it. That doesn't seem fair in the self-driving case, so it's possible that the manufacturer of the vehicle will provide contracts accepting responsibility for the car's actions. It's also possible that governments will add/change laws to handle self-driving vehicle liability differently. And of course, when an accident occurs, victims will be suing owners and manufacturers, and the courts will help decide the outcome.

It might not be pretty, but it will get worked out.

To me this is just one of many questions in the way of us seeing real full self driving. For a while it will really just be better and better autopilot. That’s my opinion anyway...
