This evening was my first experience with “free juice”. I took my wife out for a nice dinner and with the restaurant being attached to a mall I had a good feeling this would be our first chance to test out charging in public. The navigation screen was excellent at identifying the destination chargers at the mall. 16 spots scattered around various locations with some being Tesla and some being standard public chargers. We picked up 75 miles of range in just short of 2 hours. Free juice while you eat is just awesome!

This juice is not “free” as in “free-free” though ...right?
Or have I always just confused the super chargers with destination chargers?

Am I just learning that there is a difference between destination chargers being free-free? While I assume super-charger use results with a charge thru your Tesla account to your card o file?

Always learning... can’t wait to experience it myself.

Not that it's the case in this thread, but just as a general PSA, unless you have to, don't rely on public charging. While Tesla is better than other with maintaining, the range anxiety is real when you roll up to a Chargepoint or Blink charger and it's (commonly) broken or out of order. Plan ahead and have a backup plan as well.

Where were these chargers located?
They are actually scattered all over the place. If I recall correctly these were near Dillard’s which was a good entrance to get us over to Capital Grille.

Destination chargers are “potentially free”. In this case free free. It’s possible that they’re located in a paid parking area or for valet only. In this case they were sprinkled all over the various garages of the mall and completely free.

As someone who doesn't have home charging, it should be noted that destination chargers

A) Aren't always turned on.
B) Aren't very fast.

Other day I decided to go to a local brewpub that had destination chargers thinking I'd pick up a few extra miles and grab dinner with a friend.

It's about ~10 miles away.

And it was cold (in the low 30s/high 20s)

Left the house, burned about 20 miles of range getting there. Got there, plugged in, no power. Go to the bartender, ask her if they can turn it on. She of course cannot, but knows who to ask. Car doesn't start charging until 30 minutes into dinner. We spend about 1.5 hours there total, I pick up ~35 miles of range. Drive 10 miles home in the cold....I'm about at the same range I started at when I had left . I guess I got a free trip to the brew pub at least.

I'm planning my first long road trip (~800 miles to Hilton Head SC from NE PA). Destination chargers at Hotels are +1....but I'm also picking hotels reasonable distance from superchargers if i need to add range in the morning if the destination chargers aren't available.
