I was told that I would be able to configure by the end of my estimated delivery window (nov 17 - Jan 18)...

Its Jan 29, can't config yet.

I believe it. Right now, there is no choice aside from color which they produce in batches and wheels that they bolt on later. They can build first and assign VINs later. Someone already had a VIN change at the delivery center due to an issue. That's why the 1/4/18 invite group got their cars in NY in less than 3 weeks despite transportation time.

Today a Tesla employee told me that production for non-owners started 3 weeks ago. I probed a little and was satisfied that it's not a guess or rumor.
I'm not sure why or how production for non-owners would be any different than production for prior-owners or how an employee could differentiate the two? Same car, right? And from what I can tell, no non-owner has yet been invited to configure. So .....?

I have stopped trying to read the tea leaves on this. [*Who am I kidding. No, I haven't..., ugh!....Thanks for the intel!*].

As much as I'd like to believe this is true, I too have doubts since we haven't seen any reports (here, TMC or subreddit) from non-owners that they have been invited to configure. Until that happens, non-owners can't order. Even though Tesla is building and stockpiling Model 3s in the limited configurations available now (basically, color and wheels) for rapid fulfillment (3-4 weeks after ordering), none of them can be deemed to have been earmarked for non-owners (as stated by the Tesla employee) if configuring/ordering isn't open to this group yet.

I'm just passing along what I heard, and the fact that I actually checked back with the person and asked, "So how do you know this?". The job title of the source who told my person would know.
I don't know the total time from start of production to clearing final inspection.
To me, it was just more of a 1/0 thing. Doesn't help totally with exactly when, but it means non-owners will get cars not too long from now.
So if you're a non-owner and you're logging into your account each day, you're not crazy.

What if I have been logging on on average 3 times/day since October? On a scale from batshit to eccentric...

I see. Thanks~~
I know there are non-owners who's timeline on their estimator said: Nov-Jan. So I am assuming they should get their's very soon?

My estimated delivery window still says Nov 17 - Jan 18. Called TESLA corporate last Friday to get any new updates. None given except that I should get my configuration email "soon". I asked what "soon" meant. No specifics, but I can infer from the conversation that I should see a configuration email by the end of February (most likely sooner). Just check this morning - no configuration yet....

Today a Tesla employee told me that production for non-owners started 3 weeks ago. I probed a little and was satisfied that it's not a guess or rumor.
What does "production started" even mean? They might have started to build something but in this case it obviously doesn't mean finished and deliverable cars coming out of the factory.

There have been so many of these sorts of statements posted on this forum, and from what I've seen they've all been misleading or incorrect. It's now a month after the supposed "production start" and no non-owners have even received configuration invitations (much less actual cars) so this is just another rumor.

Vague promises by unnamed "management" sources, delivery coordinators and showroom salespeople are worthless. They either don't know, are overly optimistic, or are misinformed.

Come on guys, billions of dollars are riding on this, and there are people who would kill their own grandmothers to have an accurate tip just so they can short or buy the stock. Do you really think Telsa senior managers are going to risk their jobs, their stock options, and their professional reputations just to tell you?

Here's a suggestion for people who think they have "inside" information: If someone other than Elon Musk, a board member, or a senior manager with the title "Vice President of ..." didn't tip you off, it's probably bogus. The people who really know aren't talking.

Well, news flash: even tips from Elon don't always pan out. There's a whole meme on "Three months probably. Six months definitely."

When scraping for tidbits, a tidbit is something. Fine to doubt them, interesting to read them.

And as for stock price, you're kind of overstating the importance of small delivery news to that. Yes, people trade on the volatility, and the stock does tend to jump on small bits of news. But just when you think news of increased shipments would bump it up, some doofus plows their Tesla into a pole. Folks who chase small bumps in the stock don't all get rich.

While I'm at it, this thread isn't crazy necessary, though I understand the appeal.
When non-owners get configs, there will be 12 new threads about it and an Electrek article. It won't go unnoticed, since 90-something percent of resos are to non-owners.
