This thread will be for circulation and discussion of ideas and tips for those who take their cooling seriously. Saying it's just a cooler is like saying your Tesla is just a car.

Pro Tip #1: Stockpile your ice in advance. If you have a freezer with an ice maker, great! However that ice holder is not big enough for when you host a gathering. Dump it into bags or bins in your freezer so you have plenty for the next gathering. Don't be caught without ice on hand. Ever.

Pro Tip #2: Bigger is better when it comes to ice. Large ice cubes have less surface area which means less surface exposure to warm air. Whenever possible opt for large cubes over crushed ice.

Pro Tip #3: Don't think of a cooler, even premium coolers, as a refrigerator. It's an insulator from warm ambient air. Although premium coolers can reduce the temperature of food & beverages, ideally add drinks and food that are already cool or cold. Adding warm items will transfer the heat energy throughout the cooler as the energy must go somewhere. Not ideal so avoid when you can.

Pro Tip #4: Warm air in the cooler is not your friend. For top performance always fill the cooler, half filled coolers means it's half full of warm ambient air. You are much better off leaving cold water in the cooler than draining if you don't have new ice or cold f&b to add. If you don't have sufficient ice to fill a cooler, stuff a towel in the cooler which forces out much of the warm ambient air.
