Do you think base model without premium upgrade have power seat? If not, what about the 44000 high range model? For me to buy a 44000 car with manual seat is silly. Any thought?

It's possible they are power seats with less control. That does remain to be seen though.

The extended range model (+$9K), by itself will not get you power seats. It gets you 90 additional miles of range and that's it. The premium interior package (+$5K) will get you 12 way powered driver's seat, among other things. It has not been stated yet what kind of seats the $35K base model will have.

The extended range model (+$9K), by itself will not get you power seats. It gets you 90 additional miles of range and that's it. The premium interior package (+$5K) will get you 12 way powered driver's seat, among other things. It has not been stated yet what kind of seats the $35K base model will have.
I feel the need to add (sorry) -- the extended range also gets you better performance, faster charging, and a longer warranty.

someone have compare a 3 series with model 3. If you buy a 330 vs 320, the 330 have standard power seat vs manual on 320. So the 9000 here only got you longer range and slight power is not a decent deal

The Model 3 compares to the 330 and 340, not the 320 to the 330 IMHO.

The jump from 330 to 340 is also $9,150.

If you configure the options on a BMW 330 that you came remotely close to the premium package of the Model 3 you are well above 50,000 closer to 60,000 bucks. You can cash out a healthy 3,000 bucks to get an 8'' nav display...

I just configured a 340i on the austrian website with nearly every option I think has an equivalent in the Model 3. Also configured xdrive and calculated a 5k€ premium for the AWD in the Tesla. You will be at around 75-80k €. The Tesla is on par with its rival. Of course at the moment its a bit unfair to compare because ICE cars have a large tax disadvantage against EVs (luckily :)).

You've hit the nail on the head here though. Tesla has to compete absent a credit to be a compelling option for consumers.

We are there and we've made it.

It's going to be hard to take a BMW, Audi, or Mercedes Benz ICE when the Tesla is the same price and potentially a pinch cheaper.

HOWEVER, once you have paid the import duty to get a Tesla into Europe or the UK (as we may be out of the EU by 2019 :rolleyes: ) it may be a very different story,
time will tell if Tesla really want to sell them in decent numbers over here when we have a price list.

Yep. I think Tesla's long-term plan is to open a factory in Europe and another in Asia. But it's probably going to be several years before that happens. In the meantime, I think Teslas are going to be a bit less competitive overseas than in North America.

The thing with power vs manual seats is you usually get used to whatever you have. Once you have everything set, how often do you touch it?
The only exception is if you have two regular drivers that have different sitting positions.
I have had manual seats in my last four cars, and my wife and I switch and never move the seat.
We did have a BMW with driver profile power seats, and it was a pretty sweet feature for it to automatically move between drivers (barely an inch difference...) but it all depends on how its packaged. I wouldn't pay $1000 for the feature.

Now if you already want most of the options in the premium package than of course it is worth if. If you only want one, you are best skipping it.
We also don't know what the standard seats will be like yet. We don't know what the fabric will be or how basic they will look. That makes a bigger difference than power/manual. So I try to not worry about it till we really know what the differences will be,

Another thing to consider, if like me you suffer with back issues then electric lumbar supports are FAR more adjustable than manual ones (the heated seat can also ease back pain)

A simple thing like lack of electric lumbar adjustment would have been enough for it to be a deal breaker for me.

I often switch with my OTHER(MHFC), especially on road trips. Driver profiles are a great feature for me. I hope that we will be able to select the driver profile from the app. I hate having to squeeze into the car to get the seat back to where my legs fit.

Kinda like how much stuff the premium package comes with. I normally wouldn't pay for something like power seats but I do like the ability to adjust it. Found on my last car that during longer drives I preferred to tweak it a bit differently and sit a tad closer to the wheel.

We'll have to see what the base seats in the 35,000 end up being. Probably cloth with manual seats. If thats the case the $5000 upgrade is a great value.

Do they? In the US, at least, the $7500 tax credit for Electric cars was specifically set to be the amount of unseen subsidies that ICE cars have always gotten, and will continue to get even after the electric car subsidy expires. ICE cars might be on a level playing field for a while, before they go back to having it tilted severely in their favor.

Also, the numbers being discussed here are before subsidies for the Model 3, and after subsidies for the ICE cars. So, exactly backwards of the claim.

@garsh, Maybe. But I would find it hard to believe that there are NO hidden subsidies of ICE vehicles. Or that they were substantially less than the respective EV subsidy. Amenable to evidence, of course.
