It's interesting to note the differences between Elon's production S/N 1 car and the render on the "My Tesla" page (which presumably was based on the Alpha prototypes). My Gimp stills are nonexistent, but I tried to scale the "My Tesla" (blue) car to match the S/N 1 car and overlaid it.

If you align the front and back bumpers, it appears that both of the wheels are further forward on S/N 1 than the Alpha:

And if you align the centers of the rims on both vehicles, you can see that there's a lot more length behind the rear wheel and less in front of the front wheel on S/N 1:

Maybe it's a difference in perspective, but to me the back end looks significantly different:

I wonder if this is what Elon did to try to appease those who had issues with the trunk on the Alpha prototypes. I definitely like the production version better. :)

The middle picture with the rims centered is the most helpful. This is what I conclude
1. the rear overhang has been increased
2. the rear roof line is more "swoopy"
3. the front overhang has been reduced
4. the frunk line between the front fender well bulges has been lowered

In my opinion,
- #3 was done to increase rear trunk volume
- #1 & #3 were done simultaneously to keep the same general overall length
- #2 & #4 were done to improve the Cd getting close to a Cd of .21
- #4 means there will be less room in the frunk but from what we saw in a picture last month of the frunk lid open, I think it will still have a surprising amount of space for smaller items. AND it will definitely give a more intimate and connected view of the road ahead.

The black car looks more sedan-like, the blue car looks a bit more aggressive. I like them both, but the black car will definitely be more efficient and practical, I want one as soon as possible.

Nice job @ahagge

I'd advise you folks to not try and compare computer renderings like the blue car against real life photos. Camera lenses distort perspectives and such so you're bound to see differences that just might not be there.

Also note that the telephoto pic of SN1 is not directly from the side - it's a little behind the car's centerline. This is going to distort things slightly so that the front of the car looks a little shorter, and the rear of the car looks a little longer.

Indeed, image renderings are quite hard to compare and prone to aspect errors.. that said.

I think the whole A to C pillar is moved forward a tad and the entire vehicle is slightly LONGER, for probably several reasons. Storage, room, battery final size and specs. Roof line looks a bit lower too, which is nice.

Could just be the blacker than black color throwing it all off though. ;-)

Today while watching the SN1 video on youtube I saw that there is also a pretty good shot of the final steering wheel. Seems like it did not change from the RC versions at all.

The one really odd looking scrollwheels is still there. From what we have seen on other high res pictures it looks really cheap and does not fit for such a beautiful car in my opinion.

I think you guys are over analyzing the images. :)

It seems beyond possible that Tesla would hand assemble (unknown number) RC's ..... Put them on the road in measures test, evaluate the data, measure performance (and all else that it encompasses) ..... then assemble a different M3 with a lengthened rear, shortened front and different aerodynamics.

I can certainly imagine the production M3 could well have different badging, exterior and interior colors, OK ... steering wheel ....... but to make major changes in the basic structure? I don't see it.

I don't think anybody was saying that SN1 was different from the RCs - they've been comparing SN1 to either the alpha cars, or some of the CGI renderings made available during the first reveal.

We don't know how it works yet. We might not like the initial look of it but it might be great to work with. Time will tell..

Not over analyzing... but to me it's obvious that the rear of the Model 3 had been lengthened from the alpha version. The nose tip had been slightly lowered as well.

Makes sense to lengthen the rear in response to customer feedback to enlarge the trunk opening and to be able to fit an 8.5 foot surfboard in the interior.

Waiting for Elon to affirm these observations hopefully in just a few weeks.

I've thought that since we first started seeing RCs out and about.
It's pretty subtle, and it's hard to say for sure given the different photo perspectives.
