Hi everyone,

Placed my model 3 reservation recently, and am looking to get some details for any knowledgable NY residents regarding rebates or incentives for installing an EV charger at home. I thought there was some rebate or income tax credit, but am not sure if that is only for businesses.

Any help and insight would be great!
Thanks in advance!

Actual Rebate for property costs for a charger seem to be limited to businesses only. (https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/credits/alt_fuels_elec_vehicles.htm)

Here's some more you might not know about:
Im assuming you already know about the $2,000 rebate on the purchase price.
EZ-Pass NY offers a Green Ez-Pass which is 10% off all tolls (http://www.thruway.ny.gov/ezpass/greentag.html)
There's also the Clean Pass stickers for the LIE (http://nysdmv.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/892),
Port Authority offers a Green Pass for your EZ-Pass which offers discounted tolls for George Washington Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel, Holland Tunnel, Goethals Bridge, Outerbridge Crossing, and Bayonne Bridge. (http://www.panynj.gov/bridges-tunnels/e-zpass.html) scroll down to Port Authority Green Pass Discount Plan
ConEd offers a time of use electricity rebate if you charge between 12am-8am, Edit: they have a solution now HOWEVER it uses a ODB which Teslas don't have so you can sign up and they will add support "soon" (https://www.coned.com/en/save-money...esidential-customers/electric-vehicle-rewards)

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the detailed response!

I'll look to see if there are any federal rebates for EV charging.

Very useful, thanks for listing all of this out.

I tried signing up for most of those, some notes
  • EZ-Pass doesn't have the Model 3 listed for some reason, unable to select during signup.
  • Did some research and apparently its extremely difficult to actually obtain a Green EZ-Pass
  • Like you mentioned that ConEd program still doesn't have Tesla support, I added myself to the waiting list.
  • Signed up for the clean pass stickers, unfortunately it looks like there are a bunch of them that you have to put on every angle of the car.

Yes, I ended up saying I had a Model S for the EZ Pass.
I also tried getting the Clean pass but I haven’t received my permenant registration (as opposed to the temporary one Tesla put on the car) so they didn’t have me in the system yet. I figured the Green Pass is the same so I’m waiting on my permenant registration before I try that. Why do you think it’s difficult to obtain a Green Pass? Please let me know if you’re successful getting these others passes.
Anyone else have success obtaining a Green EZ Pass?

Also choose the Model S from the list when creating a new EZ-Pass account.

I did some research last night on the Green Pass and read a bunch of forums. From the experiences people posted it seemed like a nightmare, some people have been waiting 5-6 months and still haven't received anything. I plan on doing the same as you, once I get my permanent registration I'm going to mail it out and hope for the best.

Cheapest way is probably trying to get a 14-50 outlet installed and use the included mobile connector. I'm not aware of any state/tax incentives which apply to residential installation.

I was looking into the green pass as well. Looks like you have to mail them a letter. I did get an Email from con Ed on 10/20 confirming that the M3 is not yet supported. Also said i had a MS on my existing ez pass. Pretty ridiculous...

Update, I was approved into the Con Ed Smartcharge program. My appointment will be later in December. Hopefully they aren't tracking how fast I drive ;-)

I also did not find the Model 3 on the E-Z Pass vehicle list (I used Model S also), so I sent them an email. A few weeks later they responded:

Your Request #: 1-12477217326 has been resolved.

Response:

Thank you for your most recent inquiry. As per your request we have updated your vehicle model on license plate JDX5363-NY to reflect Model 3. For further assistance please contact (800) 333-8655 to
speak with a Customer Service Representative

Thank you,

E-ZPass New York Customer Service.

I have not gone back in to check this though.

I submitted a request for the Green NYT tag a few weeks ago - in person as the local CSC
(form, letter, registration info)

Was given a temporary white tag for the time being and asked to return it at the local CSC
when the green tag arrives in the mail:

https://www.e-zpassny.com/en/about/csc.shtml

No ETA yet on when the Green tag arrives.
