Can someone from NH who has taken delivery indicate how this was done? Are you required to take delivery in MA and pay sales tax?

Welcome to the forum!

Home delivery definitely seems like an option -- see this TMC thread on New Hampshire deliveries. If you scroll down to the last post, NH user @tga documented the process and requirements he followed to take delivery of a Model S in December 2016:

  • 12/3 - Placed deposit, using my phone's browser while having dinner with another Tesla owner. Thought about driving the car home from TX to NH (was going to be in TX for Christmas).
  • 12/5 - Scanned and returned signed MVPA and pre-owned disclosure, told Pre-Owned sales advisor that I gave up on the drive home idea and wanted the car shipped to New England.
  • 12/8 - Car "enters transit system", per Delivery Specialist.
  • 12/13 - Car arrives in Dedham. I called the service department and confirmed they would sell me a set of 19" slipstream wheels and TPMS, mount Hakkapeliitta R2 winter tires I supplied, and deliver car with the R2's installed. I did point out that the R2 is a Tesla-approved tire in Norway, if it mattered.
  • 12/16 - I went down to Dedham to inspect the car and drop off the R2's.
  • 12/17 - I get an email that wheels are on backorder and due 12/23 (not sure if the issue was 19's for the snows, or 21's to replace curb damaged wheels).
  • 12/21 - Service confirms car will be ready by Fri 12/23 (when I am flying to TX for Christmas)
  • 12/28 - Car is delivered to my house, the day after returning from TX.
Also FWIW, a TMC user from New Hampshire (@djplong) has been told that his car will arrive in Dedham in early May, get prepped for 1-2 days, and then "shipped" to him, presumably across the state line. (You can find that post here.)

Received my Model 3 on March 16th, and I live in Hudson, NH.

I went down to the Dedham MA Delivery Center the week before to see my car, do the inspection/look it over, hand-over my trade-in, and sign some paperwork.

Tesla pays a 3rd party to load up the car in a covered trailer and drive it up to NH for delivery. They basically came to my home and unloaded my car on the street in front of my driveway. This is so I wouldn’t have to pay MA sales tax (if I were to take delivery in Dedham and drive it off the lot).

The driver who delivered my car was very friendly and professional.

My coworker is getting home delivery in NH of his Model S tomorrow (well it was supposed to be Tuesday, and they keep pushing it back as it sits in NJ). I've been helping with the whole process as much as possible and have learned a bit.

You can pick up in MA if you want, but you would pay mass sales tax. Of course there's no sales tax in NH, so you definitely want to take the home delivery option!

He has made several trips to Natick and Deadham over the past two months, but he's also one to ask a million questions, so I don't think any more than one would be required, if that. All the paperwork in the last week has been overnighted, and everything earlier was done electronically.

He's trading in his car, so the same truck that is bringing his Tesla will be picking up his trade in and its title.

He will then have an unregistered Tesla in his driveway so then must go to the DMV. That could be a very tough/tempting day! But certainly worth the trouble for saving thousands in tax.

See that's strange cause they specifically told me I *can't* pick up in MA, even if paying sales tax. Oh well, all done and over with now, and a 5 hour drive isn't that bad if it's in a model 3 :)

New to the forum so please bear with me. I received my configuration e-mail last night but I would really like to see a Model 3 before ordering. Any 3's in Central NH?

UPDATE: We have received our VIN number 44XXX and are waiting for Tesla to update our Tesla Account page with a 'button' that allows for us to pay for the car. We have been told that the car is in NJ (typical east coast location) and that we need to pay in full before it can be shipped by a third party. We had the option of picking it up in Whiteplains, NY and have opted for home delivery at not additional cost.

Things at this point seem a little rushed on Tesla's end. The first DS called to say that they had a car for us and that we would be able to get it sooner than our Aug18-Oct18 window. She said that we would need to pick up the car in Denhem, MA. OK, cool! We had selected this location when we placed our order so we could look over the car before paying for it. We thought that we could then ask for it to be delivered over the NH State line. However, after reviewing the contract online we realized that it showed us paying MA taxes in the total price. We made a comment that we live in NH and wanted to avoid paying MA taxes. They apologized for the oversight and we were reassigned a new DS who was in charge of home deliveries.

The new DS was suppose to contact us within 48 hours . We emailed the original DS back a week later to say that we hadn't heard anything and then received a call the next day. Our new DS gave us the VIN # and said our car was in NJ and gave us an estimate of 2 weeks for delivery. Two days later, yesterday, he called back and said that they could have it to us next week if we got the payment submitted ASAP. GREAT! We had the money and no trade in-very straight forward purchase. So, last night we eagerly went online and there was no way of making the payment. We have emailed the DS to adjust our account page, but we will likely need to wait over the weekend.

It seems like they are working hard to get the car to us as soon as possible but the process needs some refining. I realize that in our excitement to receive the car these minor changes seem more important now than they will likely be after delivery. I find myself needing to remember that we are so much closer than we were when we stood in line on March 31, 2016. Patience. It's almost here :)

You are absolutely right Lon!! Our Model 3 was delivered last Sunday, 10 days ago and all is forgotten. We just LOVE the car. It is SO much fun to drive, and it’s beautiful. We are still waiting on the phone app but they are looking into it. The car was delivered in enclosed semi truck which meant that it was perfectly clean when it arrived. No flaws that we have seen and a just cleaned and waxed it. We don’t have strong LTE coverage here at the house (one bar) so hopefully I will be able to get a over the air update when it is parked at work. It is now registered and inspected and ready for adventures. Thank you Tesla team!!! Thank you Elon!!!!!

For those who did get home delivery in NH, did you get a temporary plate at the DMV while you waited on the paperwork to register the car?

I just got my VIN last night, car is in going to be in Mt Kisco NY early September, with home delivery 7-10 days after that. They wanted me to drive down to pick the car up there, but I'd prefer if they just dropped it off, saves me and my wife 7+ hours round trip driving.

Yes, we got a temporary plate in Newport NH with a printed bill of sale from Tesla and drivers license. Good for a month. We received the title in the mail a few days after receiving the car, went to city hall to register it and then the next day to get it inspected.

Thank you for this information. Expecting delivery this week to my house in NH.
Please post an update if you get that delivery. I have cried "uncle" on home delivery and am picking up in Mt. Kisco, 5 hours each way. My car was in transit Aug. 9 or before. It has been at the NJ hub for a couple of weeks and was not leaving until Sept. 6 (to Dedham then home delivery). That means over a month to get to me. Hoping to pick up Friday in Mt. Kisco!

Well, car was fully paid on 8-22. I'm doing a trade-in which I sent the paperwork back to them. Expecting a phone call no later than Wednesday with an update about when the car goes on a truck. Third party they don't have much control or communication but are improvong.

So playing the waiting game....

Frankly, they took like 5 days to price my trade. Then delayed getting the contract. Then the delivery specialist went on vacation.

The specialist says they are going to try hard to get deliveries done by the weekend.

Fingers crossed.

I can't drive to NY as I have small children and no time to do that.

The specialist meant this weekend? I hope your car has already made it to MA. From NJ, my delivery specialist said my car was going nowhere until 9/6 for home delivery. One truck driver just left his job in NJ and there seems to be a very large bottleneck there. My car did make it to Mt. Kisco from NJ. Waiting to hear about the inspection. Good luck with your delivery!

My car has been sitting in Dedham for weeks.

I got the call and delivery window is tomorrow morning 8am to noon. The delivery specialist told me earlier today that the title for my trade was messed up, they need to send it back to me just to print my name, and would get delivery by the weekend or early next week. Moments later in the same call he said delivery would be Wednesday or Thursday this week. I think someone in the background was telling him. Then later I got the call from the 3rd party delivery company!

Super stoked!

Great news! Congrats! It must be so frustrating for your car to be so close. I would have been tempted to "visit." At least mine has been a respectable distance away all of this time. What is your config?

Right. Waiting is tough when really no need other than swamped delivery dept with paperwork. The car was paid for on 8-22.

It's rwd, silver, eap. I want the range, efficiency and autopilot for commuting to Mass. I guess a not so popular config. I ordered 8-5. Non-reservation holder. Surprised it was available so quick.

I can't complain. Reservation holders waiting a very long time. Still waiting for SR.
