Still debating the roof rack or getting the ecohitch installed. We have a nice hitch-mounted bike rack already and that's probably the only use we'd ever have for either the hitch or the roof rack.

They end up costing about the same with installation and all the accessories we'd need to buy. Discounting the cost of the hitch-mounted bike rack we already have.
I've got the hitch. Installation was not bad, but you do need a variety of sockets and torx bits.

Making it "invisible" (removing the visible part of the hitch) does require lying on the ground and reaching way up in there. If you've ever delivered a breech calf, this will seem easy.

Just a vote here for a roof rack/box for the skis rather than a hitch rack. Tonight we were at the Silverthorne CO supercharger and a Model X with a hitch ski rack pulled in next to us. They couldn’t get their charging port close enough without moving to the side and plowing their rack back into the sign between the chargers. Glad I ordered the roof rack. Will move the Yakima box from our giant SUV to the M3 when we need to carry 4 + skis next time.

For those with roof racks this might be something very useful. It's an ultrasonic sensor that attaches to your roof rack and communicates with a base station in the cabin of the car to warn you when you risk hitting something with whatever is on your roof rack.

Of course, it was a kickstarter so time will tell whether or not they bring it to market successfully. Be nice if there was a way to integrate it into Tesla's OS so you wouldn't need the separate base station in the car.
