Since we know Tesla has built several Model 3 beta cars (as per their SEC filing for Elon's compensation related to beta car candidate selection) we will use this thread for posting information, pictures etc of Model 3 BETA cars spotted in the wild.

Here is what to expect and look for in a Tesla BETA car (based on Model X production candidate spottings in 2015:

  1. Expect Model 3 BETA cars to be mostly seen in the Palo Alto area dear Deer Creek Rd. which is where Tesla headquarters is located. 90% of Model X production candidates were spotted in that area during 2015.
  2. Small chance of BETA cars being seen at the Fremont factory, especially on the test track. Most cars are sent to headquarters for validation testing
  3. BETA cars should have near 100% of production parts being tested. Be on the lookout for cars with Autopilot 2 cameras (look for the side blinkers with a black area where the cameras are or on the B pillars)
  4. Cars should have very dark/black tinted windows to hide interior details
  5. Cars may have very obvious white wrapping on the front nose area to hide final details of the "tweaked" nose. If it's going to be the same as Model S or X they may not camouflage this.
  6. Expect BETA cars to not be left unattended at Superchargers by Tesla staff. Model X was tested in the wild and spotted frequently at Superchargers
  7. BETA cars will either have heavily camouflaged interior details
  8. BETA cars will be seen in various colours!
  9. If a car is parked car is spotted please do not antagonize Tesla staff. Be respectful of their desire for secrecy. They are under NDA and cannot speak openly to the public.

In light of the recent spotting of the Alpha car in Hawthorne, some were mistaking it for a production candidate:

I will offer an award to the first person to send in a VERIFIABLE Model 3 BETA car picture sent to me at tips@teslaownersonline.com

The picture must NOT be published or submitted from another location in the internet. You must include your name and phone number for verification. Pictures will be watermarked MODEL3OWNERSCLUB and credit will be given to the photographer if desired. Pictures will be published here and on our twitter account. I know this sounds like a lottery but we just want to make some news and help grow the community!

@TrevP , great initiative (thread & 'lottery'). Just one thing, please remind us why we now could see a 'tweaked' nose vs. the first reveal? Don't remember anything on this option lately...

Elon tweeted that both the nose and trunk had been adjusted after the reveal. Cant find the reference now but the trunk opening may be somewhat different on the beta models.

Remember trunk yet not nose... sense of smell gets worse with age I'm afraid... :p

I think Tesla was "Testing the Water" with the Alpha prototype picture leaked today.

They probably wanted to know how much buzz was created and information was leaked. I think the beta prototype is about to show its face sometime next week or so.

We have to see a prototype in the wild, doing winter testing of model 3, if its going to be launched in a couple months right.

we have so many leaked prototype of heavily camouflaged, jaguar I pace, nissan leaf and so many OEM in the wild who are launching their cars in 2018/2019 but yet to see a Tesla Model 3.

I hope there are no delays

I tend to agree with this - seems to align with other Tesla processes...

Updated news from Tesla investor call:

Tesla is bypassing Model 3 BETAs and going straight to production candidates on the tooling line. Mentioned they have much better analytical techniques this time around. Probably because parts are passing quality control quite well?

They said they should be driving those around in one or two weeks.

They also said panels gaps are tighter this time around. Better than Model S (which aren't the best if you ask me)

Delivery of Model 3 (as I predicted) could happen in 30 minutes or less due to advance training videos sent to customers beforehand.

Will most likely open delivery centres specifically for the car

I was literally about to post this but you beat me to the news as usual. Very interesting news and the most we have heard from Elon about the Model 3 in some time. Really excited to hear that the line is essentially running to produce not beta's but actual production models. I am seriously thinking of applying to be a delivery specialist when I retire in the near future, would love to seek the look on clients faces. The new delivery model might cut down on the need. :)

I am skeptical of skipping the Beta step for the Model 3. I wonder what sort of deals Tesla will be doing for employees that will be acting as guinea pigs effectively. Skipping this step will probably incentivize me into DELAYING my delivery of both of our Model 3s rather than just one of them.

What if, Tesla has learned a lot about what to do and not to do and has designed a car that is massively easier to build than a Model S and X combined with more automation with less assembly craft to end up with a car that can be systems validated faster than what they've done in the past?? Those are their words, not mine.

The whole company is riding on this car. If they rushed it to market it would be disastrous. l so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt here. Maybe they really do have something really different this time and have learned their lessons??

Granted, I expect them to learn from their mistakes and expect improvement. However, I, personally, feel that it is beneficial to delay my delivery because there is always something that Tesla ends up re-jiggering "mid-stream"... Remember, I'm in California, and a current owner, so, it means that I'm more likely to be a "paying beta-tester" of the product.

Interesting ! where can I listen to the audio?
This was an institutional investor call that the public was lucky to have summarized on reddit and by media, I don't think that the raw call is made available for public consumption.

since a dealership service crew put my car on a flatbed lift, instead of using the lift points, uniform panel joints have not been that much of a concern for me (@o& &*^ dealerships :rage:)
