Sweet! I've been thinking more about getting this kinda config. Getting the options that offer value so I can keep more money in TSLA. Unless air suspension is cheap I may drop it. Would love dual motors but at 3-5k.. probably not.

This is excellent news which helps me a lot with the recent 'stress' around the quoted cargo space... ;)

Man, do I love this :
'According to our source, the base Model 3, as of now, will start at 60kWh. This capacity comes in higher than what we original expected and should deliver more range than Tesla had originally announced.'
Can't wait to hear by how much and feeling good to have kept the faith... :)

Normally, my plan is to stick to the 60 kWh choice, unless, after getting AP2 software and AWD, I still have some budget left for the larger battery... :rainbow:
As stated before I need an alignment of stars for that to be possible, forex being one star and the other the continuation of the French incentives... :rocket:

By the way, just like the 215+ miles, maybe they really meant 14+ ft³ for cargo space... :D

Air suspension isn't worth the price. I couldn't tell the difference in the Model S I had for a few days. Put your money into the battery and AWD if you want. Keep in mind the options on Model 3 are going to be severely limited compared to what we're used to on Model S.

There are less than 100 config permutations at launch.

Yeah I'd like AWD especially considering it won't be available to closer to Canadian delivery dates. Kinda depends on the cost of AWD and the cost of Autopilot. Rather have autopilot if they're similar in price. We'll see.

I'm glad to have 60 over 55, but they seem to confirm only the 75s will be made first. The question is when they will start offering 60s. It shouldn't be a significant engineering and production change like dual motors is, so I'm hoping it will only be a few months. I don't think I can afford the 75 (or, more accurately, would rather spend the money on autopilot etc), but I don't want anything to cause any delay to my order.

My worry is that the 75kwh battery is going to be $10-12k more than the 60. For the Model S, the upgrade from 75D to 90D is $13k. Since Musk estimated the average sales price to be $42k, I'm really hoping that means the battery upgrade is $5-7k, dual motor is around $5k, and a few extra premium options are available. I just don't see how the existing math gets us to those prices though. And I haven't even factored in Autopilot cost.

So it won't be possible to buy a $35K Model 3 out of the gate?? I'm sorry, but that seems deceptive to me.
For all we know, they are focusing on the 75kwh at first for the employee-only sales period. There's still quite a bit of time between initial production and production that goes to the general public (guessing Sept?)

How many of the employees (especially line workers) can afford more than $35K for a car, especially living in CA?

You raise a good point. The SpaceX workers can afford it, but this thing seems like it can get expensive quickly. On a separate note, it would also suck to be an employee or CA resident who wants dual motor.

I doubt many of the lineworkers will be affording any Tesla for a while. But Tesla does employ a large number of programmers and engineers too.

@NoVADrew I love your point, and exactly the optimism I'm holding on to that they will be offering base battery by the time I have the (East coast) opportunity to place my order

So if this is true what do you think on range?
240 and 280?
Dan
My WAG (based on 60 nominal = 57.5 usable, 75 nominal = 71.5 kWh usable, and the comparative reasoning that I posted here a few weeks ago):

60: 225 (3.91 mi/kWh)
60D: 235 (4.08 mi/kWh)
75: 275 (3.85 mi/kWh)
75D: 287 (4.01 mi/kWh)

Still hoping that I'm wrong and we see 300+ on the 75D -- all it would take would be a slight bump in the usable capacity or efficiency.

Also secretly hoping that Tesla mimics GM and gives their nominal 60 kWh battery 60+ kWh of usable capacity, thereby giving the base model a real chance to beat the Bolt on EPA range and thus complete the sweep. Rationally, though, I'd say that's an awfully short-term goal for such a long-term project...

Very good point. From a PR perspective missing the $35,000 base selling price promise would be a disaster. News of the extra range offered by the bigger battery would be drowned out.

When I look at the Model S, 15kWh gets you and extra 35 miles (S75D/S90D). What about the 3 would allow it to get any more than that?
