Hey guys! I wanted to check in with folks who have picked up their cars at Marina del Rey in the last couple of weeks. I received my MSM AWD VIN on Monday 8/13/2018 and that my car had arrived at the devilry location. By Tuesday morning (8/14/2018) I had everything in order financially and was squared away for delivery. My ISA then told me that quality inspection was backed up at Marina del Rey, and I would have to wait until it got through that step before scheduling delivery. Just wondering what the recent wait times have been for everyone. I feel like these last 4 days have been way harder than the previous 863 days!!

I just picked mine up from Marina del Rey about 2 weeks ago. It got delivered there on a Saturday but they said they needed a few days to get the car and paperwork ready. I was able to pick up the car on Monday 2 days later. It's a big delivery center and they had tons of cars there so it's possible they're getting busier with the production ramp up.

My ISA said it arrived last weekend, and she stated it was still going through the 'quality inspection' process. Just seems odd that it has been there for a week without an update in regards to setting up a delivery date. I have a buddy who's car arrived a couple of days before mine and he's in the same boat. Just seems odd to me....

I got a call from my ISD this week, she told me my car was also in MDR ( not at the delivery center another location in MDR). It was going through its QC check and once it clears that she will call to get me on the calendar. I asked for an estimate and I was told they could not give one because MDR had received a large shipment. My hope is it will be less than two weeks from when I spoke to her.

Yeah, I'm in that exact same boat. I actually called the delivery center today and the nice guy on the phone said "your car has passed a few inspections and has one remaining. I don't want to give you any time estimates as to not let you down when we don't meet that estimation, but I'd say you'll hear from us in a week or two. Hopefully we'll can beat that, but that's what I'm thinking based on how I've seen things go." Ugh! I mean, I'm glad they're doing inspections and all, but what inspection could possibly take 2 weeks?

Well, I called the Delivery center yesterday and they could not provide a further update. I'll try to call my IDA today or tomorrow depending on my work schedule.

For those who are expecting a better than average delivery experience at Marina Del Rey, don't. 5 minutes to sign the papers, another 5 minutes to go over how to get in and start the car, then they take the car in front and you're done. I had maybe 6 legitimate operating questions and the delivery rep said "this is where I say goodbye" as he extends his hand for a handshake and walked away. Wow.

Ha! That's great. What more should we expect though from a So Cal car dealership. I've had a little bit of luck with the guys on the phone at MDR, but this is pretty much how I've assumed the experience is there. Picking up on Thursday at 3:15pm. Excited, but cautious.

Congrats, still waiting for my call, I hope to get my 3 before Labor day weekend since I'll have to drive to OC twice that weekend and I am really tired of filling up at the gas station.

Well, I got the call today. I am scheduled for delivery on Saturday, they were able to do it on Friday but I had too many meetings to so that did not work for me.

The follow-up email (to the phone call) did say "Your delivery experience is scheduled to last fifteen minutes" so they for sure are not spending time with you.

I'm not sure what you expect. The appointments are scheduled. If they scheduled an hour with each person they could only do a few deliveries per day and the deliveries would be backed up for months. This is their system for delivering as many cars as possible and is standard at all delivery centers.

For my experience, we spent 5-10 minutes signing the papers. I wasn't rushed at all, they told me to take as much time as I needed to review them. They're pretty standard forms so you don't need much more time than that.

After signing they helped us set up the app and then took us to the car. They went over all of the features of the car and the app.

Then they took the car to the front. The rep took a few pictures of us with the car and asked us if we had any additional questions - We didn't. She told us we could take as much time to explore the car as we want and could ask anyone if we came up with any questions.

Overall I was happy with the experience. To be honest I just wanted to get in and drive it, not sure that I would've wanted anything more drawn out.

I got the car!!! Guys, everyone is right. The moment you see her, all of the worries you've had after reading the horror stories on the boards go away.

TL;DR - Great MDR experience. Just what I wanted. Small paint issue. Getting that fixed when I get a chance to stop by a service center. Car is amazing.

With the amount of cars that they have at MDR waiting for delivery, the process feels very personalized. We had our appointment set for 3:15. We arrived about 25 minutes early (taking a Lyft), so they asked us to hang out in the waiting room for a bit. There was one couple ahead of us that was signing papers, so I took a chance to look at the Model 3 that they have in the showroom to familiarize myself with a few of the things I wanted to check out during my inspection.

Our delivery representative was available about 10 minutes before our 3:15 appointment, so we sat down and went through all of the docs. It was very painless. One thing I didn't know is that you cannot do any modifications to the DMV registration (vanity plates, etc - I wanted to get the black plates with yellow letters/numbers - no cute saying just a standard issue) until you receive the standard registration back from the DMV (about 45-60 days) so that made the process go even quicker. This probably took a total of 10 minutes. For this entire process we were the only people in the entire waiting and signing area.

Once you get through the docs, the delivery specialist passes you off to chat with a charging guy for a second while they go process all the docs. About 3 minutes later, Nick came back and was ready to show us the car.

He walked through a couple of things in the warehouse, and then said he would pull the car out to the side and we would continue our walk through there. He showed us how to work the app, open the charge port, open the frunk, and use the keycard.

We all then got in the car and he drove it down the ramp to the side of the bldg. There, my wife began the internal inspection (as he was walking her through how to use the features of the touch screen) which gave me a chance to look at the exterior. Overall, the car was in great shape. I think I have a tad misalignment of my rear lighting housings, but I'll look into that later. The one on the charge port side sticks out a couple thousandths of an inch further than the one on the passenger side. I also found one little paint chip at the top of where the front passenger headlamp housing meats the fender, but it was not enough to waste the time of having them fix it there. Nick took pictures of it and passed them along to the service center that is closer to where I live (the one in the valley), so sometime this weekend I"ll stop by and they'll fix it. Also, as we were going through all of this on the side of the bldg, I'd say a M3 was being moved from their detail center (other side of the warehouse) to the delivery side about one every every 3 minutes. So they have a lot of cars going through there. Our detail guy said they like to do 4 every 15 minutes, but then mentioned it was slow yesterday because they have increased qc at the burbank holding center so cars are coming over as fast as they used to.

Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. There wasn't a fancy red runway, or a picture op location like I have seen at other delivery centers but that's ok. I just wanted to get into the car and drive.

And holy *sugar* guys. It's so much fun to drive. I ordered the AWD. I was expecting torque, but not this much torque. I can't imagine what Ludicrous mode feels like because this is a hell of a lot of torque. I've owned 2 BMWs and this is in another league. Can't wait to take it out of the city on some open roads!
Best of luck to everyone on getting their car to MDR!!! Fingers crossed they are all on a truck as we speak in transit to MDR!

I had the same experience as described everything went well. Quick walkthrough in the warehouse then the Rep (Luke) drove the car down the ramp. When we were outside he did give the feeling like he wanted to get out asap. I asked if they had the aero wheel center caps and he said they sometimes have them in stock. I asked if he could go check. That is when he said "oh I remember we dont have any in stock" I just laughed inside. Overall we did not see anything wrong with the car.

I'll do more of a walk through later this weekend. The after we got home and dropped off my wifes' car we went out for a drive since she has never driven a Tesla.

Funny thing as we were driving around I did realize I never had an ID checked or anything. Nothing to validate I was who I said I was. lol

Wow! I was thinking you were glowing about how efficient the delivery experience was until I re-read your post more carefully. My delivery dragged on a little longer than that but I was still pretty impressed with how quick and painless it was. I had already read the Owner's Manual cover to cover (and so had the wifey) so maybe we were a little better prepared. I would rather ask questions at a nice forum like this because there are a few more eyes on the ball in case the first answer is not exactly right.

Did you try saying "Excuse me, I have a few questions"? Or did you just shake his hand and say goodbye?

My MD3 is going through inspection process as I type this... Delivery date is scheduled for the 8th (Aug)... I'm hoping for a painless, yet speedy sign-inspect-drive scenario at MDR!!! Crossing fingers...

On a side note with the Marina Del Rey pick up location... Does anyone know if there's a Tesla retail store there to buy merchandise and such? More specifically, the frunk and rear Model 3 mats? If they are available for purchase on-site, I'll purchase them there instead of ordering them via Tesla.com... Thanks in advance!!!

:)

@airbutchie When I was there they had some Merch out that could be purchased but I did not see much in the way of car accessories so it may be best to order online.

I asked about the center caps for the Aero wheels when I was there, (after my delivery specialist Luke had driven the car outside already). The convo went like this.
Me: "Do you guys sell the center caps for the aero wheels here"
Luke: " We do but they are often out of stock"
Me: can you check if you have them in stock now
Luke: Just remembered they are out of stock you can order then online - goodbye

LOL
