If you had to pick between premium upgrade or long range battery what would you do and why.

Definitely PUP. It's something that can be enjoyed every minute in the car. The bigger battery is only a slightly more inconvenient when driving 500+ miles. For me that's only a few times a year.
I agree. PUP all the way! I am contemplating getting EAP or not. Trying to decide if I should wait to add EAP so I can decrease some of the total cost of the car. Then possibly add EAP once I receive my tax credit, but then I start thinking about the extra 1k I would have to pay for waiting......tough decision.

PUP. I'm really digging those extra USB power ports in the back plus heated side mirrors and fog lamps. I also dig the expected heated seats in the back to help reduce reliance on the battery draining cabin heater.

Also, being $4K cheaper, I can more easily afford Enhanced Auto Pilot.

When you force between these 2 upgrades I think you will find most would be choosing PUP here as it is simply more bang for the $...the extra $9K for LR getting you another 90mi. is a much harder pill to swallow.

I'd choose PUP if I had to. Easy.

I'm going over budget and getting both as I see these 2 upgrades as clear must-haves
(financial situations withstanding)

Case for PUP is easy w/ all that it covers, lots of upgrades with some more desirable than others but just the number of them seems like a great value.
Case for LR starts with the "it's hardware / you can't add later" reason and ends with a less stressed battery that should have a better longevity, thus better value over time. (Individual usage variables withstanding). I do wish the larger battery was only $7500 or $8000 but wishes do not always come true.

I personally know I would regret it if I didn't splurge and get the LR. I already know that in 2years or so when the LR dual-motor Performance Model 3s start rolling around, I will have to just deal with it haha...

I can't justify the $9000 for the long range battery for my expected 30 miles/day, so PUP would be the choice. However, when it's time to replace my wife's ICE SUV, which is our vacation and hurricane evacuation vehicle, a long range "Model Y" could be very tempting, or even Model X 100D, if we could afford it then.

Long range battery. To max battery life I plan to set the charge limit to 65%. Thus battery degradation will be much slower and my M3 will closer approach immortality. Plus the benefit for long road trips. Thankfully this is just a make believe fantasy thread because in reality I will be getting both.

I know many will pick both but this post is limited to picking between $5,000 for premium upgrade or $9,000 for long range battery. Which would you select and why?
Bigger battery. For me, personally, allows me the luxury of a 380 km round trip to drop off/pick up my wife at Pearson (Toronto) airport, in the winter, at highway speeds and not have to worry about any charging stops.

PUP for me.
This'll be a commuter car, and my commute is about 70 miles a day, meaning I can cruise at 80 in the summer with the AC blasting and have no issues with range on the standard battery. The Long Range battery would seldom get exercised.
I must have driver profiles, and thus PUP because my wife is much shorter than me, so every time she borrows my car I have to spend 5 minutes readjusting everything. Besides, I WANT the glass roof, but that WANT by itself wouldn't be enough to spend 5 grand, and upgraded audio, heated seats, fog lamps, etc., aren't of much interest to me.

...and, we are in the middle of our return drive home (from a rented cottage vacation in the Okanagan) via the Prius.
We will do this road trip again once I have my M3, so another reason for the primacy of the long range option (if I had to only choose one option).

Long range battery. I make several long-range cold weather trips each year, being able to cruise at 80+ and not worry about weather reduced range is big. I have a long commute and reviewing my driving over the past year there have been more than enough days where I have driven 220+ miles. I'd prefer to spend my money on EAP or dual motor. That being said, I am going to go for the first production package of LRB with PUP. I certainly will enjoy the PUP though as I spend quite alot of time in my car. Depending on what Tesla stock does I'm going to try to swing for the EAP.

worry about weather reduced range
Longer range battery. My experience with my 60D: Winter driving severely cuts down on range. More supercharger stops for my 150 mile trips upstate. Weather above 50 degrees gets me there with 15% (starting at 100%) left with A/C on etc.......220 is really 150 in winter. So priority is range for me

I wouldn’t take this car without PUP. While I’m getting both, not having PUP would be a deal breaker.

Long range is nice to have (very nice to have), but it’s extra range and performance that I will use infrequently as compared to the goodies in PUP.

I was originally going to get the longer range battery (even though I don't really want/need it and at 9K it's a LOT of money for what it provides) mostly to try and guarantee delivery early enough to get the full federal tax credit, but we're all early enough that that choice isn't a problem at all anymore. I think i'm going to just wait till standard packs are being delivered and will still probably have delivery in Q1/Q2 either of which are going to get the full 7500$ federal tax credit. And by then, hopefully, we'll have a 7.500$ CA tax rebate to boot.

A real interesting dilemma for me... If push comes to shove I may need to sacrifice the PUP with my Italian apartment 500 miles away... ;)
