Hi Everyone. I am a pre-reveal line waiter and a non-owner. I got my reservation in at 10:30am Pacific time at one of the Bay Area Showrooms. Like everyone i have been patiently waiting for my Model 3. My estimator shows March-May (like most early line waiters).

My Aunt and her Husband own both a Model S and Model X. I am curious what relationship is needed with a Current Owners to get be considered in that group?

Is it possible to somehow have my existing reservation be transferred to them or would that even not be needed?
Could they simply reserve a Model 3 using their current ownership of 2 Tesla's but allow the car to be paid for and registered in my name

I am not looking to cheat or fool the system. I have just heard that Ownership needs to stay in the family, which technically it would be because i am their nephew. I just wonder if Tesla has a requirement for the vehicle to be registered at the same address or some other similar requirement.

Are there any current owners that understand how this process works? Would i be able to quality? It wouldn't be the end of the world if not, i still should be pretty early in the non-owner queue but considering not a single invite has gone out to non-owners I really don't know what to trust anymore or when that might happen.

I wouldn't feel tooo bad for jumping ahead of people, because my place in the non-owner queue should have me in the first batch or two of invites once they go out anyway :) Troy's estimator has me number 535 in non owner queue.

Here are some things I can confirm for you...

I transferred my already placed reservation to my parent's account. That took a few hours for Tesla to complete (requiring the approval of my parents). From there, I was invited to configure in the next weekly batch. I configured and the non-refundable deposit of $2,500 was placed using my CC. After the car was locked in, you walk through the registration steps -- the car carried over with my name and in the event it didn't, I had the ability to change it. At delivery my parents were not required to attend as the car was only registered to me, so only I needed to be there for paperwork.

After driving away my car remains in my parent's Tesla account (so for the "app as a key" I'm logging into my parent's account currently). Tesla takes 3-5 business days to transfer the car to another Tesla account so that should go through for me within 1-2 days.

All in all pretty pain free and simple. You should be doing this! :)

Thank you so much for your Advice, I spoke with my Aunt and she agreed she would do this as well. They have two Tesla's already so don't mind sacrificing one of their early reservations for me.

Hopefully it will all go smoothly!

I think i have some good news for non-owners based on my experience with the process by
SoFlaModel3 .

It turns out my aunt and uncle have their vehicle on separate accounts so she can only get 1 early reservation. She thought she was helping me by creating a new reservation yesterday, but now she has to cancel that before my Early reservation can be transferred to her account.

What i believe is good news for non-owners, is that current owners who reserve today are no longer ahead in line before those non-owners who got in early reservations. My aunt gave me her account information so i can place my order when all this is complete. I logged in and this is the time lines for invitation for current owners that order today.

First Production : Late 2018
Standard Battery : Early 2019
Dual Motor : Late 2018

Thanks again for the advice everyone, it will be interesting to see just how much this helps!

Did Tesla tell you this? Not saying you're wrong, but from what I've seen reported, if you are an owner and you place a reservation, you don’t automatically have the ability to configure. It seems to take a few weeks (2-3) to kick in.

I spoke to a Tesla sales person, who then transferred me to an Account Specialist to begin the account transfer. Both told me that it was a better idea for me to transfer my reservation to my Aunts account as that would get me moved up in priority compared to either just keeping my own reservation booked on 3/31 or using her current owner reservation booked yesterday.

Then of course there is the evidence of me actually logging into her account and seeing the estimate Late 2018 for the reservation done yesterday. Once my reservation replaces hers it will be as if she stood in line the morning of March 31st instead of placing a new reservation yesterday.

I am basically giving up my reservation to her but she has given me access to her account so i can take control of the process once the reservation is transferred.

This is true. If you’re number is up you’re included with the next batch.

Switched my day-one reservation over to my father's account this week as well (thanks SoFlaModel3). As a side note, initially I called on Sunday and they said I needed my father to be on the line with me. I went to his place and called back later that day and they didn't even ask to talk to him—they just asked for our emails associated with the accounts. I didn't see any change mid-day yesterday so called up and bugged them again. After a couple hours, they had made the change.

Well things moved pretty quickly. I just got a call that the account work had been completed. I was able to login and place an order this evening!
Says 3-6 weeks delivery window
That was pretty quick! I wonder if the fact that new invitations went out today explain why you were able to order on the same day as the transfer, versus having to wait for the next batch while the delivery estimator showed non-owner dates.

It definitely does!

This also should all but confirm the US owner queue is “complete”!

Yeh, I'm not sure they should have allowed non-owners to move their reservation to owners to get priority. In fact, that was Tesla's policy in the very beginning. They weren't allowing anyone to reserve under someone else's account when waiting in line. That person "had to be physically present". I wonder why they changed it? Why give priority to people who haven't actually purchased a vehicle from the company?
This is why I didn't reserve with my dad in the first place—I didn't think it would be possible to order for myself under his account. If it makes you feel any better, I had "the talk" with my wife last night and she has vetoed an LR purchase. :(

I had that same "talk" with my wife, and she agreed that it is okay to buy First Production if I can get the full tax credit, but without the full credit, we'll wait for a SR car.

I've also started a discussion with her on buying a Powerwall and increasing the capacity of our solar array, then buying a used EV, spending about the same total amount of money. It would be great if Tesla {the Energy part} would actually answer my question on whether or not they have qualified {certified?} installers in North Alabama.

Just linked my account with my sister's. Tesla rep said to expect to be able to configure within two or three weeks. I wonder if 2-3 weeks is the new schedule for allowing additional buyers to configure. Anyhow, as a April 1, 2016 online reservationist, I am happy to think that I might be getting my car sometime late spring.

It could definitely be faster. I've seen some people in the last few days report merging accounts or buying an S or X and having their Model 3 invite come within a few days. Hope it pops up fast for you!
