Folks, the local EVGO charger at the mall charges .35 a minute to charge at Level 3 with CHADEMO or some other combination plug.
I was trying to do the mental math on the L3 charge rate to determine if this is a total ripoff?

10 minute charge at L3 will yield how many miles of range? Seems more expensive than gas.

A few thoughts:
  1. If you share the exact location, we can look it up on plugshare and probably determine the exact charge rate, and from that determine the cost per kWh.
  2. A Model 3 can't currently charge at a CHAdeMO station.
  3. Eventually, Tesla's CHAdeMO adapter should work with the Model 3, but it costs $450.

I will say they have a single L2 free charger but it has been down for a bit. The only options were the CHADEMO and some other combo plug that was .35 a minute.

Howdy, neighbor. I've found that particular EVGo charger to be unreliable, pricey, and inconvenient.

Unreliable because one or more of the connectors is usually out of order. Pricey because the ChaDeMo and CCS connectors are rated at only 50 kW (which works out to $0.42/kWh, plus a session fee if your EVGo plan calls for one). And inconvenient because the parking spaces are very narrow and difficult to back into, *and* EVGo automatically ends CCS/ChaDeMo sessions after 30 minutes, so you wouldn't even get an 80% charge with a hypothetical ChaDeMo adapter. 10 minutes would probably give you about 30-35 miles of rated range, depending on your battery level.

For free Level 2 in the area, check out the new Lifetime Fitness building across Route 9. There are something like 16 free L2 chargers and free parking in that complex, and both Chestnut Hill Mall and Chestnut Hill Square are only a short walk away. No DC fast chargers, though.

I'm a little surprised that Tesla hasn't flagged any of these locations for an Urban Supercharger, given the presence of multiple shopping centers, restaurants, gyms, and a movie theater. Maybe one day...

Since your current options are tesla plugs (destination or supercharger) or j1772, I’d filter out the others and ignore them. (Making the cost at the chademo irrelevant.
