I was supposed to take delivery on my Model 3 yesterday afternoon in San Diego. Four hours before my appointment, I got a call from the Delivery Specialist saying that while detailing my car for delivery, the techs discovered a "crack" in the glass roof panel over the driver/front passenger area. They had no idea of how or when the crack occurred. They feel it is a safety hazard and the glass must be replaced before delivery. The DS went on to say that a new panel had been ordered and should be shipped down to San Diego overnight for replacement by the San Diego Service Center by tomorrow or Friday. I have a weekend trip scheduled, so delayed delivery until next Monday, the 22nd.

Questions: Does Fremont really have spare glass roof panels ready to ship? Is the Service Center capable of competently installing and sealing the new panel? Should I ask for another car while Tesla sorts out the cracking problem? Any other thoughts?

I'm sure Fremont has these parts available for shipping to SD. And I would not worry about it much. Apart from the delayed delivery (which really is a "bummer"), I'm sure all will be fine. At least you know what to inspect in detail (apart from everything) when you take delivery. Congrats and post pics when you get it!

Sorry to hear that happened. :( Congrats on the delivery though! I'm glad to hear of more deliveries going on down here in San Diego! As for the cracked glass, I feel kinda like you, where I'd be considering asking for a different car. I'm sure the service center will be completely capable of handling the installation of a new glass roof, but there's always gonna be some doubt. Then again, it could be significantly better since the service center will be spending more time ensuring the installation is done right. Let us know what you decide and how it works out for you!

Better safe than sorry. Tesla will make this right for now so don't worry about it, replacing the glass isn't very complicated

UPDATE 2 (and end of story): Picked up my Model 3 this morning. Absolutely no indication of the glass panel replacement that I could detect. The car has the new headliner (VIN J...319x), and as others have reported, it looks fine. The delivery process took a bit less than an hour. There were 4 other Model 3s being delivered at the San Diego Service Center at the same time.
