I'm taking delivery of my model 3 in two days, 7/9/18 in Costa Mesa, CA. I am fortunate enough to plan on paying for my model 3 with the cash payment option. Here it is 7/7 and the payment box on my Tesla account has yet to pop up. I still don't even know the final price of my car! I gave Tesla a call today and spoke to a very nice production specialist. He advised me that since there was a brief period where model 3 production slowed to improve the assembly lines in the factory, now they are delivering a ton of model 3's. This means that there is a huge backlog on their department that is in charge of setting up everyone's accounts for final payment. They have to apply taxes, fees and all that stuff to your account to make sure they get the amount right prior to the date of delivery. But the Tesla employee I talked to today advised me that even though it's only two days before delivery, it's somewhat normal at this point for the payment on your Tesla account to not be available yet.

Just posting this as a heads up to everyone, there is a such a backlog of model 3 orders and deliveries happening right now (assuming that's because they waited for this quarter to restart with the deliveries) that there is a delay on receiving your finalized amount needed for payment on your Tesla account. If you've configured your model 3 and setup a delivery date and everything and still don't see your finalized price, no need to worry, they're just backlogged and it will be all setup on either the day before you take delivery or even the day of delivery.

Hope this helps anyone who may be curious!

This is extremely stressful for those of us financing. I have to ensure the funds from the loan come through and my payment comes through.

I definitely agree that this backlog could be stressful on someone who is financing. I'm not sure how finance companies are treating this type of purchase of a vehicle because this process is so new to finance companies.

Even worse, I cannot buy the car in Michigan so I’m going to Ohio and will be more than 3 hours from the bank on the day of purchase.

Wow, that is going to add even more stress to the situation. Well hopefully you get your final price sooner than I did. Maybe they put me on the back-burner since I am using the cash option and indicated I was not using any type of financing.

How long ago did you take delivery?
It was just over a month ago.

Shortened long story

10:00AM Friend at Delivery Center getting Model S serviced, sends pictures of all the Model 3s on the lot.
10:15AM We joking ask if our VIN is there
10:20AM A picture of our VIN returns
10:30AM I send email to agent that had let me known that my delivery will be in 6 weeks (that was 4 weeks ago). "I think my car is on lot. Can we get it?" (Knowing that this is Friday morning before long Memorial Day weekend

12:00 Out at lunch, got phone call. "It is, we can schedule delivery for 3PM tomorrow, oh, it looks like we can do noon as well.
12:01 What about financing? "When I get off phone, I'll contact financing and they will enable your portal"
12:10 Call Insurance to get rider
5:00PM Log on to portal, new page appears. Funds broken out, I still owed $14k, go through steps and enter bank routing number and it was like an Amazon purchase
12:00 Arrive to pick up car

In general, I suspect that the fastest way to move through all of the steps is to let Tesla do it on the order that it queues to the individual. In my case, when picking up the car, the local manager indicated that they would have probably called me on Monday anyway.
But as anything, all of these are cogs in a big system. They know how to do the steps, but with the number of vehicles going up, handling out of sequence requests only slows the machine down.

My recommendations
If financing, use Tesla, how much are you really saving going somewhere else
If you go somewhere else, get everything arranged that you can, prefer an organization/person that has worked with Tesla before.
Know who to contact when you get final information from Tesla
Make sure you know at Insurance company, who you need to call to get a rider.
If you are going to pay some, make sure you know the bank account routing number.

Have it all ready and honestly, when you get the okay, it may only take 30 minutes to finish it all

Man that is a crazy story! Shout out to your friend who gave you the heads up about your car being at the lot!

This happened during the flurry of Canadian deliveries in June. I never actually got the final price until the delivery people called me at 6pm on Friday (delivery happening on Saturday) and I barely had enough time to get the bank draft to cover the purchase price.

Jeez! That's crazy. Especially trying to get stuff from a bank on a Friday. My bank is only open until 3 on Fridays. I would have been out of luck!
