I've been floored by how fast my order experience has moved. I never had a reservation. My order for a LD RWD M3 was placed on 8/31. Yesterday, my delivery date was set for next Thursday (9/13)!

I ordered when I did because of the expected 2 - 4 month lead time, wanting to ensure I got the full $7500 tax credit. Guess that won't be a problem...

But really - 2 weeks, and that without ever having a reservation! A bunch of folks must be upgrading to AWD/P - what else could explain such a fast turn-around?

A lot of LR RWD orders have been filled already, so that's working in your favor. You may also have just luckily picked whatever color/wheel combination they were building at the time, or they had a couple overage builds hanging out in a lot. There doesn't really seem to be a clear sequence of whose orders are being addressed when at this point. But I think the biggest thing is that most RWD orders have already been filled, and now AWD is what people are waiting for.

The RWD LRB orders should be mostly filled. Now they’re on to filling Dual Motor and Performance. I suspect the remaining backlog is people waiting for standard range, still just waiting, and those outside of North America.

Since Tesla seems to make the cars in color batches, you can also get lucky picking up a car matching your config that was waiting for a home.

I was just as shocked as well. I saw the 2 to 4 month window, so I placed my order on 8/30. I just received a notice that my car will be ready next week, but I am flying out on vacation overseas for the next 3 weeks. I had to email back the delivery specialist but I have not heard back. Crossing fingers I can still get my car before the tax credit ends. Add to that, I have the electrician schedule to add my Nema 10-40 outlet the week of my return.

If they are really caught up with LD RWD orders, I’d think they would update the expected delivery date when the config was done... right? That might cause some to pull the trigger, knowing they wouldn’t have a long wait...

I think the web site is last on most of their minds right now, what an insane pace they are running at :)
